History and Purpose

The Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach was formed in 1947 by a group of arts-minded citizens. Plays were first performed at the Chamber of Commerce Building on Canal Street and later in an old converted barn. In 1953 the present building located at 726 3rd Avenue on the beachside was built on land donated to the Little Theatre by Hannah D. Bonnet, former Mayor of New Smyrna Beach, whose portrait hangs in our lobby.

The Little Theatre is a non-profit organization whose stated purpose is to provide quality entertainment to our community as well as education in the performing arts. We encourage local drama students by awarding a scholarship to a deserving graduate of New Smyrna Beach High School each year. Our theater is run by dedicated unpaid volunteers working together and sharing a common love of theater. We present six productions each winter season from September to May and a summer production in July. We also have a children's theater educational program and adult classes in all phases of theater.

We invite you to help us in any way you can - either by attending our plays, donating your time, or your financial support.
