Highlighting New Canaan

The Glass House

199 Elm Street
New Canaan, CT 06840

203-594-9884

Mission

The mission of the Philip Johnson Glass House is for the 47-acre campus to become a center-point and catalyst for the preservation of modern architecture, landscape, and art, and a canvas for inspiration, experimentation and cultivation honoring the legacy of Philip Johnson (1906–2005) and David Whitney (1939–2005). In addition to guided tours, the Glass House will launch programs and provide national leadership in the preservation of the Modern.

Plan Your Tours

Tours of the Glass House and its 47-acre site run annually from May 1 to November 30. Tickets are required for tour admission and advance reservations are highly recommended. Visitors may choose from six levels of site experience. Standard and Extended Tours provide access to the Glass House, Painting Gallery, Sculpture Gallery and Da Monsta. Modern Friends and Twilight tours feature those buildings above in addition to Philip Johnson’s Study/Library. Visitors may also book private tours.

The Brick House is currently closed for restoration, however, visitors who purchase tour tickets during the months of September, October and November 2010, will have an exclusive view of the on-site preservation efforts to restore the structure.

Tours begin at the Visitor Center located at 199 Elm Street in downtown New Canaan, CT. The center is conveniently located across from the New Canaan train station. Visitors are transported from the Visitor Center to the Glass House site in a shuttle van – approximately a 10-minute drive.
