About Us:

The Origin of Our Name

Early in the morning on August 28, 1980, a young boy of seven played outside his house on Harrison Street in Annandale, MN - very near to the railroad tracks that paralleled that street. Time has pushed away the memory of exactly what he was doing that morning, but forever etched in his mind is the thundering "BANG" that pounded his ears and the subsequent fog that plowed through the air.

It turns out the fog was actually dust from the seven Soo Line grain cars that derailed that late summer morning behind his house. And what was a seven year old to do in 1980 with giant piles of spilled grain in his back yard? Let's just say that the for a short time the wooden Cardinal Cruiser ship was NOT the most popular thing to climb in Annadale.

34 years later, Annandale's first brewery has borrowed from that memory and adopted the name Spilled Grain Brewhouse.
