About Us:
Every little theater has its story. Ours began on the rainy afternoon ofApril 3, 1998, when 32 people from here, there and verywhere showed up at the Murrells Inlet Community Center to discuss the possibility of starting a new theater troupe. Here was this bare stage in the auditorium of an old schoolhouse, and now here were all these people eager to make it happen – some who'd been active in theater elsewhere and others who'd never set foot onstage.
Within a few months we formed a board, adopted a name, became legal (as a nonprofit) and planned our first show, with the blessings of the Georgetown County Department of Parks & Recreation, the building's proprietor. That show was Neil Simon's "Plaza Suite," and we pulled it off with cardboard flats, tomato-can lights, a mail-order poster, and a cast and crew ranging from accomplished to simply enthusiastic. Thirteen years and 38 shows later, Murrells Inlet Community Theatre is still going strong, thanks to the support of volunteers, patrons, local businesses and the community at large. We are managed by a board of directors and produce three plays annually, along with hosting workshops and other programs for the enlightenment and Enjoyment of the community.
