Lynn Museum And Historical Society

590 Washington Street
Lynn, MA 01901

781-581-6200

We are a museum and research library dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting all aspects of the history of the city of Lynn. Founded in 1629, Lynn is one of the oldest settlements in Massachusetts and has made significant contributions to the cultural, social, and industrial heritage of both the Commonwealth and the nation. The Lynn Museum's mission is to foster better understanding of this rich history through permanent and changing exhibitions, educational programming for both adults and school children, publications, and research.

About Us

The Lynn Historical Society was founded in 1897 by a group of Lynn citizens concerned that Lynn's historic past was rapidly disappearing in the face of the expanding industrial city. Although the Colonial and Revolutionary periods were the immediate concern, the Museum has always been fortunate to have forward looking individuals who understood the importance of preserving the legacy of their own day as well. The result has been a museum that can truly tell the whole of Lynn's remarkable story. Although the focus has changed over the years--hands-on learning and informative lectures have replaced Sunday afternoon musicales and high teas--the goal of the Lynn Museum, to preserve, collect, and interpret the history of Lynn and all its citizens, remains unchanged.

The Museum is open for research Monday through Friday 9 am to 4 pm, and for exhibits daily 12pm to 4pm. Admission is free to members and Lynn school children, and $5 for non-members.
