Manistee and Au Sable Rivers offer excellent canoeing opportunities. Numerous canoe liveries are available in the Grayling area. State Forest Pathways: Mason Tract (13 miles SE): 11.5 miles of slightly hilly terrain. Hiking and cross-country skiing available. This area is currently closed to bicycling. Off-Road Vehicle Trails/Routes: The Frederic Loop Trail (5 miles North) offers 29 miles of cycle/ATV trail and 9 miles of full-sized vehicle route. Rustic campground includes vault toilets and potable water from well hand pump. Toilets, wells, and fire rings are universally accessible. State Parks: Hartwick Pines State Park, North Higgins Lake State Park, South Higgins Lake State Park, Otsego Lake State Park are all within 20 miles. These state parks offer modern restrooms & campgrounds, designated swimming beaches, hiking & biking trails, and interpretive, educational & recreational programming.
