Our Mission:

As a professional touring dance theater, our mission is to provide cultural enrichment through the arts. Jubilee Dance Theatre's main objective is to encourage and educate its audience through entertainment, utilizing a diversity of dance styles. Challenging the viewer to see beyond the norm by looking at the past, considering the present, and moving boldly into the future.

As Jubilee Dance Theatre branches out, new doorways of self-expression through the arts will be opened to the underserved community by means of Master Classes, Company Workshops, Seminars/Lecture Demonstrations, and one-on-one student choreography projects. All of which serve as a vehicle to increase self-esteem, creativity, fitness, mental health, motor skills, discipline and coordination.

About Us:

Jubilee Dance Theatre (JDT) was founded in February 2003, under the direction of Luctricia "Lu" Welters, whose vision was to develop a style of risk-taking choreography that would be innovative and unique. Lu Welters' vision was to express the art of dance by working with dancers from all backgrounds and cultures. Claudine Carter-Pereira, Assistant Artistic Director, has also been part of this vision since 1999. They both defy stereotypes by thinking outside the realms of the traditional dance theater: this company has truly ventured "OUT OF THE BOX." Recently, Ms. Welters received the 2006 Arts Recognition Award from the Florida Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs. In 2005 she was nominated for the Onyx Magazine Award in the area of performing arts.

This multicultural company's main focal point is to encourage and educate its audience through entertainment. JDT presents a variety of dance styles, including ballet, modern, jazz and hip-hop, infused with imagery, performed with passion and heart: a creation that is visually appealing to all. As a non-profit corporation, JDT has found a way to link their art to the community. This is achieved through performing in intimate settings, giving lecture demonstrations, teaching within local schools and providing opportunities for members of our South Florida community to perform. The company's philosophy is to give its gifts back to the community.
