One of eastern Nebraska’s most popular recreation areas, Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area has about 40 land acres and nearly 300 water acres in 20 sandpit lakes. Located three miles west of Fremont, this is a favorite area with campers, picnickers and water enthusiasts who come for great boating, fishing and water skiing.
Attractions
Fishing
Largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie and channel catfish are available in the various lakes. Additionally, muskies are stocked in Lake 20, catchable bullheads are stocked in Lake 3 and rainbow trout are seasonally stocked in Lake 2. Four lakes (7, 9, 13 and 16) have been recently renovated and restocked with game fish. Additionally, the area boasts excellent access for shore anglers, five floating and four ADA-accessible fishing piers, five fishing decks, two ADA-accessible fishing decks and eight fishing nodes.
Boating
Powerboating is allowed on lakes 10, 15 and 20. All other lakes are open to non-power craft and electric trolling motors. For safety and to ease congestion, towing more than two individual skiers behind any boat is prohibited at Victory Lake and Lake 20.
Personal watercraft
The area has a specially designed lake for use by personal watercraft. A ramp has been installed to allow personal watercraft to back into the water.
Swimming
Swimming is permitted in buoyed areas only. There are no lifeguards on duty
Group facilities
The Group Lodge at Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area is the perfect location to host a family reunion, wedding, meeting or other group event. The Group Lodge offers 1,500 square feet of open indoor space, as well as an 1,800-square-foot deck overlooking Lake 16. Wireless internet and audio-visual equipment are provided. Other amenities include a kitchenette with refrigerator, sink and microwave; wireless internet; audio-visual equipment; and restrooms. Fremont SRA offers several day use picnic areas throughout the area.
Camping
RV camping
Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area offers 190 hard-surfaced pads with 20- and 30-amp electrical hookups, as well as 12 non-pad sites with electrical hookups. The campground is situated among mature shade trees, and showers, modern restrooms, water and two dump stations are available.
Primitive camping
Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area offers 240 non-pad sites without electricity.
