Compass On Social Security Card

Are you ready for Social Security? Do you understand how Social Security works? Have you wondered what the differences are between full, early, and delayed benefits?

AARP can help you make well-informed decisions that will have a significant impact on your retirement by offering the popular webinar “Social Security: Understanding Your Benefits” to the public. This webinar will focus on the implications of Social Security claiming decisions. AARP will also cover how to secure your benefits and consider the future of Social Security. You can build confidence in making decisions that are right for you.

Social Security has just reached its 89th anniversary. While it is the basis of hope and security for millions of Americans, it has also evolved over the 89 years, into a complex program that must meet many diverse needs in society. AARP is a committed advocate for ensuring Americans have access to Social Security benefits and has developed extensive resources to assist people in understanding and maximizing their benefits.

The webinar has been updated for 2024 and provides several tools to help you achieve your retirement goals. These include: the AARP Social Security Resource Center, AARP Retirement Calculator, and AARP Home Budget Calculator.

The webinar will be facilitated by Pamela Sams, an AARP Virginia volunteer community ambassador, who conducts workshops on retirement and financial planning. Sams has a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor certification through the College of Financial Planning. During the webinar, you will be given the opportunity to ask questions and interact with other attendees.

The webinar “Social Security: Understanding Your Benefits” will be offered three times during the remainder of this year; the dates are below. Registration is required to attend.
