Aging Advisory Council Seeks New Members
Make a Difference for Older Adults in King County
By Michael Adusah, Aging and Disability Services
Are you passionate about ensuring all people can age with dignity, security, and support? Do you want to use your voice to shape programs and policies that affect thousands of older adults and adults with disabilities across Seattle and King County? If so, we invite you to consider applying for the Seattle-King County Advisory Council on Aging & Disability Services.
The Advisory Council plays a vital role in guiding Aging and Disability Services (ADS), the Area Agency on Aging for King County. Members help shape services for older adults by identifying emerging needs, informing policy decisions, advising ADS leadership, and advocating at the city, county, state, and federal levels.
As an Advisory Council member, you’ll:
- Participate in dynamic monthly meetings that feature speakers on aging, disability rights, housing, health care, and more
- Join in advocacy activities, including meeting with legislators and testifying on key issues
- Work alongside a diverse group of professionals, advocates, and community members
- Have the opportunity to build knowledge and leadership through training and committee participation
Council Details:
The Advisory Council is a 21-member body. Members are appointed to serve two-year terms and may serve up to three terms. The time commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month and includes attending monthly meetings (2nd Friday of each month), participating in committee work, and occasional events or trainings.
We’re looking for applicants who:
- Are committed to advancing equity and improving the lives of older adults and people with disabilities
- Have experience in volunteerism, community engagement, or local leadership
- Bring lived experience, subject matter expertise, or professional interest in aging, caregiving, disability justice, public health, or housing
- Live or work in King County
We are especially seeking individuals who represent the voices of rural communities, South King County, communities of color, and people with disabilities.
Whether you’re a seasoned advocate or just getting started, your voice matters—and your contribution can make a real impact.
