AARP Pittsburgh Volunteers to Manage Food Drive During MLK Day Concert

Posted on 01/03/25

AARP Pittsburgh volunteers will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by collecting non-perishable food donations for the East End Cooperative Ministries Food Pantry at the entrance to the 17th annual Let Freedom Sing concert. The event begins on Monday January 20th at 7:30 PM at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, 5941 Penn Avenue, East Liberty.

Led by the MLK Festival Choir, the Let Freedom Sing concert is comprised of singers and musicians from choirs throughout the Greater Pittsburgh area. For the 18th consecutive year, these choirs unite to celebrate the Dr. King with the goal of blurring the geographic, demographic, and economic lines separating urban and suburban Pittsburgh.

The East End Cooperative Ministries Food Pantry provides groceries to those who are food-insecure and those dealing with homelessness and addiction. The Cooperative also serves hot lunches free of charge to those in need.

Tickets for the in-person and live-streamed concert are available for a “pay what moves you” or “pay what you can” basis. Attendees of all ages are welcome. If you would like more information on the concert, please visit their website.
