Doug Shadel is a former fraud investigator and special assistant attorney general with the Washington State Attorney General’s office. He served as the State Director for AARP Washington for almost 20 years. Shadel has collaborated on numerous academic studies and co-authored several books about fraud including "Outsmarting the Scam Artists", "The Fraud Fighter's Handbook", and the 2025 release, "Dangerous Dialers". Shadel has testified before Congress about the rise of telemarketing fraud and served as an expert witness in several criminal fraud trials brought by the U.S. Department of Justice. He currently serves as Managing Director for Fraud Prevention Strategies, LLC, a Seattle-based consulting firm.
