We'll explore how to overcome the mental blocks preventing us from asking for help.
About the Event
Join AARP New York for four workshops on preparing to navigate aging’s dance of independence, dependence and interdependence with grace and continued growth.
Facilitated by a Sage-ing® Mentor experienced in the art of drawing upon the wisdom that comes with age, these 90-minute sessions will explore such topics as coming to terms with our losses, overcoming our resistance to accepting help and strengthening our support networks.
This second session will help participants examine the mental challenges of asking for help. Together, we’ll:
- Consider mental models feeding resistance to accepting care (e.g. It’s better to give than to receive.)
- Explore developing mutuality and trust in the caregiver/receiver relationship
- Explore strategies for handling issues such as finances, your home and important documents
- Ponder what our “very best self” looks like as a receiver of care
Upcoming sessions:
7/9: Dance of the Heart: Emotional Challenges of Asking for Help
7/16: Dance of the Spirit: Spiritual Challenges of Asking for Help
