This month, we’ll explore the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American military aviators in the U.S. armed forces. The program began in 1941 at Tuskegee Army Airfield in Alabama as part of a push by civil rights organizations to integrate the U.S. military. The pilots, navigators, bombardiers, mechanics, instructors and support staff of Tuskegee overcame racial discrimination to become one of the most respected fighter groups of World War II.
