In celebration of National Volunteer Appreciation Month, Tuesday Explorers is highlighting community leaders making an extraordinary impact. Meet Ada M. Babineaux (a.k.a. Babino), an independent filmmaker and founder/director of the San Antonio Black International Film Festival.
Ada has an extensive background in film production and directing. Her time in the early days at Black Entertainment Television (BET) provided experience in network television, while film studies at Howard University introduced her to independent filmmaking. A pivotal moment in her career came when she worked alongside renowned Ethiopian filmmaker Haile Gerima on his acclaimed indie film Sankofa, which sparked her passion for Black independent filmmaking.
