Explore historical connections between baseball and the landscape of American life, including the impact of war, civil rights and the immigrant experience.
About the Event
Long known as “America’s National Pastime,” baseball is deeply connected to societal changes throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries.
In this presentation, we’ll explore some of these connections, including:
- How baseball represented the immigrant experience in the early 20th century
- The role of baseball in World War II
- The impact that the Civil Rights Movement had on the game
- How Americans moving to the suburbs in the 1950s caused Major League Baseball teams to change locations (and fan bases)
Specific knowledge about baseball is not necessary to participate in this session.
