Mission:
Danmari’s mission, through the Yass Hakoshima Movement Theatre and the New Jersey Center for Mime, seeks to further the artistic development of the art forms of ancient mime and movement through performance, training and educational programs, and to develop a better understanding of the art form and how it can be applied to Western contemporary life. Further, Danmari’s goals are to develop new audiences and to initiate and encourage interdisciplinary artistic and ducational collaborations. Danmari’s programs also convey the strong Japanese theatrical tradition and culture.
About Us:
Yass Hakoshima Movement Theatre celebrates its 43rd year of performing and teaching mime and movement arts. International mime artist Yass Hakoshima, hailed by many as Japan’s Marcel Marceau, uses perfect physical control and imagination to combine the intensity of Japanese Noh Theatre, the drama of classical mime and the athletic elements of American modern dance. His is a unique art form of remarkable purity and power with both social and psychological themes. Accompanied by unique sculptural props, masks, and intriguing music, Yass Hakoshima transforms and mesmerizes audiences of all ages.
