Whittle's farm has been a family tradition since 1902, and now Rick’s children are working on the farm -the fifth generation of the same family.
“When my great grandfather bought the farm there was one tree, 18-20” in diameter that was already 100 years old and it’s still bearing fruit,” Whittle says. “A lot of our trees are 75 years old — they’re huge.” - Rick Whittle
The Whittles started to offer pick-your-own apples in the early 1980s.
“The whole concept behind it was every apple that somebody picks is one less that we pick,” Whittle says. “Which is why we’re a little cheaper — it saves endless amounts of work and handling.”
It’s a win-win situation all around.
