The West Palm Beach Country Club was built on the North West side of which is now the Palm Beach International Airport. It was founded by philanthropists and businessmen. These gentlemen created the West Palm Beach Country Club to serve the public citizens as the popularity of golf began to grow. The onset of World War II brought a need for an expanded airport which utilized the present land of the golf course. The money that the government paid for the course was used to build a new course on the present Parker Avenue site. Dick Wilson, a prominent golf course architect designed the unique, highly undulating, waterless eighteen-hole layout. The new course was opened in 1947 and was soon to host the ‘West Palm Beach Open Invitational’, a yearly PGA tournament. The likes of Arnold Palmer, Gardner Dickinson, and Gay Brewer, are just a few of the victors at the annual Palm Beach event.

Today the West Palm Beach Golf Course thrives as an accessible public venue that will intrigue golfers of all skill levels. The 1980’s brought fame as one of the “Top Ten” public golf courses in the United States. The Friday Pro Am is renowned for being the "Oldest Game in Town” and still attracts Professionals and amateurs to compete weekly in this points game.

In 2009, a successful restoration and Florida eco-friendly golf course was completed by Mark McCumber and Associates. This seven month project concluded with the grand reopening November 16, 2009. The event was highlighted by the ‘King’ himself, Arnold Palmer, hitting the first tee shot in celebration of his 1959 victory at West Palm Beach Golf Course.

Now it is your turn to play! When in Florida do not miss the opportunity to play where the Pro’s played, and still do…. the legendary West Palm Beach Golf Course.
