Open: Year-round
Our story begins in 2003 when we purchased the acreage surrounding the Tasting Room and Vineyards. Having lived and worked in the Hillsboro, Missouri area for many years, we began looking for property further south to perhaps eventually enjoy in retirement. We spent many weekends exploring various possibilities, but soon found ourselves captivated by the beauty of Ste. Genevieve County. Upon first glance at this property, we knew we had discovered our dream.
By 2004, we were beginning to feel the draw of the land and the influence of the area's growing wine industry. The idea of planting "a few" grapes to sell turned into five acres of Nortons by the end of the year. We absorbed all we could in order to increase our knowledge of grapes. We cultivated, nurtured, and learned in a trial by fire fashion. Over the next four years, while our grapes grew, we enjoyed our property with family and friends, and somewhere in the back of our minds, contemplated the idea of a winery.
By 2009, that thought gained a solid foothold on us, and we officially formed Weingarten Vineyard. We plunged into the idea by planting more grapes, as well as raspberry, blackberry, plums, and lavender. Groundbreaking Day in October 2009 was an exciting venture, topped only by the thrill of opening our doors in May 2011. We are deeply grateful to our family, friends, and the people of the surrounding counties for their love and support during the building of Weingarten Vineyard.
