Wallace District Mining Museum and Visitor Center

509 Bank Street
Wallace, ID 83873

208-556-1592

The Wallace District Mining Museum captures the flavor of the mining industry in Northern Idaho from the days of the early gold rush to the more recent period of world-record silver production. Artifacts, models, photographs, paintings and displays of mining activity and techniques take you back in time and deep into the history of one of the most lucrative mining districts in the country. Many of the exhibits are inside timbered mine for an authentic mining experience.

One of our featured exhibits is the large three dimensional model of the largest silver producing mine in the world - the Sunshine Mine. A documentary video on area history is included in your admission fee. Your admission is good all day so you can come and go as you please. There is a free public research kiosk accessing our databases and archives. We also provide visitor information services. The entire town of Wallace is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has three museums, a mine tour, the 1910 Fire Memorial, several good places to eat, two breweries, and is the starting point for world class cycling, skiing, and off road / backcountry excursions. It’s well worth a stop.
