Open: Year Round
About Us
Established in 2002, Two Mountain Winery is a family-owned operation nestled in the Rattlesnake Hills within the Yakima Valley wine region of Washington State. Brothers Matthew and Patrick Rawn own and operate the winery and estate vineyard, drawing on the experience of four generations who have farmed the rich soil of the Yakima Valley.
Copeland Vineyard is named after our great grandma, Gladys Copeland Schmidt, who moved to the Yakima Valley with her family in 1908. It was planted on old apple ground, property our family has farmed since 1951 Located in the Rattlesnake Hills area of the Yakima Valley, Washington State's oldest appellation, Copeland Vineyard continues our family's history by providing over 90% of the grapes we use to make our wines.
We planted Copeland in the spring of 2000 to with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Syrah, Lemberger, Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional. We truly believe that each bottle of wine we produce starts in the vineyard and as such, we invest every resource necessary to produce premium fruit for premium wines. Luckily, Copeland Vineyard makes our job easy.
The Cascade Mountain Range provides a wonderful rain-shadow effect on our vineyard, which is situated on a south-facing slope 1,198 feet above sea level. We have a very warm site, averaging 29 80 degree days with an ideal 190 day growing season and annual precipitation of only approximately six inches. Warm days and cool nights provide the Yakima Valley with near-perfect growing conditions, allowing the both white and red grape varietals to fully express their classic characteristics. During the last ice age, the great Missoula Floods deposited ancient volcanic sediment across the region, creating a rich blend of sandy and rocky soils that shape the distinct character of our vineyard. Our award-winning wines are truly a reflection of the perfect location and climate in which they were grown-Copeland Vineyard.
