Jim Sampson (left) has been brewing beer since the late 90s and in 2009 he started thinking about taking his brewing passion to the next level and turning it into a career. In early 2009, Shane Bordeau joined Jim in brewing beer and together they decided to launch a brewery that specialized in brewing Mexican style beers brewed in Texas by Texans. They knew they wanted to be the first to market with Tex Mex Beerâ„¢ and they bought an initial 10 gallon pilot system in September of 2009. This system allowed for testing and consistent production and the first few recipes were born.
At Phase 1 of the brewery and after upgrading the brewhouse in Cedar Park, Twisted X Brewing Company released three types of "small batch" brews. We launched with Twisted X - a premium lager with a twist, Cow Creek - a full bodied Vienna style lager and Fuego - a jalapeno infused pilsner. We felt these beers appealed to our target market and even piqued the interest of those looking to try something new. As brewery operations expanded, we added Chupahopra - an Amarillo dry-hopped IPA and a couple of seasonal beers: Siesta - a prickly pear lager, and Senor Viejo - an imperial black lager aged in Dulce Vida tequila barrels.
At Phase 2 - Ted Stewart (right) came on board as a partner in early 2012 and helped ramp our expansion and relocation to a 10,000 square foot brewery and tasting room in Dripping Springs, Texas in November 2013. We upgraded to a 30 barrel Criveller brew system and are currently operating with four 60 barrel fermenters and four 120 barrel fermenters. We self-distribute our beers from San Antonio to Georgetown and we are in many grocery stores, bars, and restaurants. We look forward to making the ranks as one of the fastest growing craft microbreweries in the country and have additional expansion plans on the horizon. Cheers, y'all!
