Mission:
Take One Theatre Arts, Inc. primary purpose is to foster and promote all forms of theatre through educational programs in drama, music and dance for the actor/ singer/ dancer of all abilities ages 5 through 21 and to present the highest quality theatrical productions to showcase our student performers to the community at large to demonstrate the professional training they have received.
History:
Twenty-six years ago four Brookhaven residents recognized the need for a quality youth theatre in the community. They formed Take-One Theatre Arts, Inc. Take One opened their first show, "Grease", with 60 talented local youth on the stage at Longwood High School. We have since performed in other school venues, at the Coram Fire Department, in the Gyrodyne/Flowerfield complex and at the Smithtown United Methodist Church. We have been at our current facility in Ronkonkoma since April 2012.
No matter where we have our productions, our goal has always been to provide top-notch training by theatre professionals in all aspects of the theatre arts including acting, singing, dance, theatre history and technical training. We are proud to say that several of our alumni have continued success on stage, film and on television as performers and technicians.
Very often, our young performers express an interest in the technical aspects of theatre. We are pleased to have trained many of them in stage-managing, assistant directing, directing, musical directing, choreography, lighting, sound and stage construction and crew.
Take One was the first community theatre group to incorporate children's participation plays into their program using young performers (ages 6 and up) to entertain young audiences. Our children's theatre has continued to provide entertainment to our youngest audiences.
Our most recent program, one that we are most proud of, is our "Special Players". We have developed this program for special needs youth ages 7-19 along with the help of very dedicated and professional individuals. In addition to providing this wonderful experience for these very special kids, this program has provided the opportunity for other youth of our theatre community to act as "buddies" in the program and earn community service experience.
Take One Theatre Arts, Inc. is pleased to continue it's tradition of quality theatre, nurtured in a family atmosphere, provided to the Long Island community at affordable prices.
