About Sunny South Raceway
Billed as The South's Finest, 1/4 Mile, high-banked, asphalt oval, Sunny South Raceway in Grand Bay, AL. easily lives up to that billing. With a smooth racing surface and banking up to 18 degrees, the track lends itself to fast, action-packed racing. Whether one is driving a Legends car or a go-kart, the D-shaped track is wide enough to race three abreast at times and gives spectators an unobstructed view of the entire track.
Converted to asphalt in 2000, the track once run under the name J&J Speedway (a fine dirt track in it's day). SSR now sports 18° corner banking, with 12° banking on the back straightaway and 6° banking on the front stretch. To maneuver the turns at Sunny South, a well-handling race car is of the utmost importance, for every turn has different characteristics and tend to play a major role in the outcome of the race.
The pit area is also a fine feature of Sunny South's appeal with ample parking and pit stall area. The pits are located directly behind the grandstand area, thus pit members and driver's alike easily move back and forth, so that they also may enjoy the races and visit with the fans. Tech facilities, concessions and rest rooms are easily accessible.
Sunny South currently features legends, bandoleros, stingers (a four-cylinder front-wheel drive stock class), on a weekly basis. Micro Sprints and mini stocks. Legends are divided into pro and semi-Pro classes. In the past, Sunny South has hosted the Southern All Star Supertruck Series races and its own subset of that series, Southern Supertrucks, that ran in a five race series.
Sunny South is also very cooperative with any series that would like to try a new facility. Any series that is interested in Sunny South Raceway should contact the race track.
