About
We are a medium length 9 hole course, 2100 yards that is perfect for the beginning golfer to get the ball up to the green and make a par but the greens are this courses defense and will challenge even the most seasoned golfer, there are 2 par 3’s and 7 par 4’s. We encourage the younger ones to golf here and we support the Dr. William & Carolyn Bell Junior Golf School @ Peninsula Park Golf Course, each summer they hold 2 classes for kids 8-14 where they spend 3 days on the range at Peninsula park and on the 4th day the class comes here to Stonehedge for a 9 hole scramble. After the class each student can come back here to Stonehedge and golf all summer at no cost to them thanks to the Bell’s.
Stonehedge Golf opened to the public the summer of 1993, It was a family project started in 1988 when John and Val Cole bought the property and with the help of their two son’s Tom and Mike started clearing trees, and moving over 100 truckloads of rock to make way for the 9 hole layout son Tom would design, at that time Tom was the assistant greens keeper at Peninsula Park. “Some have said I was crazy to be building a golf course at the age of 72” John Said.
In 2003 Stonehedge was purchased by Mike and Liza Snell and some significant changes were made. The irrigation system was upgraded so now the tee’s, green’s, and fairways are all fully watered, a kitchen and dining area seating over 50 is added to the original clubhouse & bar, and a pro shop is added off the bar all in 2005.
Then in 2009 while driving around looking for cherry blossoms on Memorial weekend Jon and Laurie Oswald saw the for sale sign in front of Stonehedge and on July 3rd the papers were signed and we were the new owners of this great golf course. Only a few small changes the next year, new hole signs, benches replaced, and some rock work around the pond and a few tee boxes. In 2011 a 40′ x 80′ storage building was added where the driving range was for cart and equipment storage. We have many small projects on our list for improvements so stop in and see if you can tell what has changed.
2016 brings a new sport to Stonehedge Golf, it’s called FootGolf and how you play it is you will kick a soccer ball to a 21 inch cup placed in the rough along the existing fairways
