About:
Stevens Bakery and Orchard is a family owned and operated business that began in 1998 when husband and wife Chris and Sharon Stevens decided they didn't want Chris having to travel for work anymore. Many different businesses were considered to operate out of their Thackery Road property, from a campground to farming, but the couple settled on a bakery.
The decision was due to the awards Sharon's pies won at the county fair. For the first few years Sharon and Chris stacked boxes in their small home and spent late nights battling with a stove that could only handle a few pies at a time. That was okay for a small starting business, but then the orders started coming in by the bakers dozen. Chris put his construction skills to work and built an addition on to their home which now houses commercial refrigerators, stoves, mixers and tables.
Stevens Bakery and Orchard isn't operated by just Sharon and Chris, the whole family takes part in the business. Their son Brian helps in the orchard and daughter Amy helps out in the bakery. It is a familiar sight to see their grandchildren also helping around the bakery and in the orchard.
The bakery now offers 25 varieties of pies made from scratch. We don’t use canned pie filling or add preservatives to our pies. You can find Stevens Pies in multiple locations throughout the Springfield and Columbus area.
The orchard is home to 1500+ fruit trees including 18 varieties of apples. The orchard offers u-pick and wagon rides on designated fall weekends in addition to pre-picked fruit for sale in the Apple Shed all season.
