The park is named for Silas Condict, an American Farmer and large landowner in Morris County, New Jersey, who was a New Jersey Delegate to the Continental Congress and lived from March 7, 1738 to September 6, 1801. After the county acquired the first parcel of land in June, 1953, the park was dedicated in September 1964 with only 200 acres. It now has 1,000 acres.
The "Casino", a stone building on the site, was renovated in the fall of 1993 and during prohibition in the 1920s it was a dine and dance bungalow with stained glass windows. It still has its mirrored mahogany bar, band stand and ice cream parlor and can be rented for special events.
Canty's lake provides ample opportunity for boating in the summer and ice skating in the winter.
Picnic sites tend to fill up quickly.
