Shreveport Water Works Museum

142 North Common Street
Shreveport, LA 71101

318-221-3388
The Shreveport Water Works Museum tells the story of Shreveport's early efforts to create a source of clean water for the city. It houses what is believed to be the oldest intact collection of Victorian era waterworks equipment. It offers a fascinating look into the past, into industrial equipment and engineering and the importance of clean water. Originally called the McNeill Street Pumping Station (because it was formerly accessed via McNeill Street) it is now part of the Louisiana Secretary of State's Museum group. It is designated a "National Historic Landmark." A wonderful exhibit made by a volunteer shows the process of cleaning water. The McNeill Street Pumping Station Preservations Society, established in 1999, serves as the "friends" organization for the museum and provides Saturday volunteer assistance.
