History:
Even before its purchase in 1971, by Mllos Begovich, the Sharkey's
Nugget Casino building in downtown Gardnerville. Nevada, has been a landmark property with a colorful history. The 'comer salon" was originally constructed on thei site in *ie late 1890's. Adjacent buildings and* uses on and near this site came to include a drug store, blacksmith shop, and mortuary C M Krummes* % operated the Wacksmth shop and mortuary, and served as the first chairman of Gardnerville Town Board ir^ the early 1900 s Since if s purchase by Mr Begovich. and known more as a restaurant with a casino attached, Sharkey's has a reputation for serving the best Prime Rib in Northern Nevada as well as large, -.. country style meals with friendly, down home service.
Milos "Sharkey" Begovich Is as much a part of the history of the Nugget as the building is. Former part owner of the South Tahoe Nugget Sharkey loved the old west and provided a glimpse of it through the extensive .
collection of western memorabilia on display. The casino, originally named the Golden Bubble, was renamed upon purchase. Sharkey was one of the pioneers of Northern Nevada gaming, counting among his many friends Bill Harrah. Charlie Mapes and Harvey Gross.  Â
The casino has played host to outstanding country performers including Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, who performed on the main stage. The Cow Pasture live boxing series was one of the most famous in the sport And, Sharkey's has been home for. or a major supporter of, most community groups including: The Kiwanis. Lions. Elks. Soroptimtst VFW. American Legion. TOPS, Senior Line Dancing, Pop Warner r Football. Douglas High Booster Club. Douglas High Rodeo, Sertoma, Carson Valley Little League, 4H and all of the local Fire Departments.
Upon learning of his illness. Sharkey decided to sell his legacy to Harold Holder, whom he knew would treat his guests and staff in the same "family" manner that Sharkey did. The Holder Hospitality Group purchased Sharkey's on January 1,2002.
