Seminole Wayside Park is located at 29901 U. S. Highway 1, a half-mile north of the City of Homestead. The park is 27.7 acres, and includes an open roadside park with shade trees, and over 21 acres of globally imperiled pine rockland. Seminole Wayside Park is ideal for an outdoor picnic and self-directed recreation in a natural setting.
Among the diverse plant community in the pine rockland at Seminole Wayside Park are two federally listed endangered plant species, and 24 state-listed threatened or endangered species. The natural area is surrounded by a low coral rock wall, originally built in the late 1930s by the Works Progress Administration program. Seminole Wayside Park is one of the County's oldest, acquired in May 1936.
Seminole Wayside Park is located two blocks south of the SW 296th Street stop of the South Miami-Dade Busway, which provides a rapid connection to the MetroRail and downtown Miami. The South Dade Trail, which runs parallel to the South Miami-Dade Busway, allows for bicyclists, skaters, and walkers to access the park.
The Mowry (C-103) Canal is located three blocks north of the park, and provides open space for walking, canoeing, and kayaking, and opportunities for fishing along the footbridge. Long-term plans include creating a multi-use trail (Mowry Trail) along the C-103 Canal corridor, as part of the County Greenway Trail Network.
