Ruhlman Brewery and Our Ales

At the Maryland Micro Brew Festival held at Union Mills Homestead last September Dave Shriver approached my father, Henry Ruhlman about brewing a beer for the 150th Anniversary Celebration this year. He wanted the grain milled on the Union Mills Homestead water powered mill. It also uses Carroll County water from our farm, and all the hops were grown on our farm. We have the biggest hop field in the state of md.Dog Brewing from Westminster is brewing a Union Beer. The Shriver family has a history with both sides of the Civil War, so it was a fun collaboration to have 2 local breweries brew a beer specific to that time in history. Especially with such local interest in the Civil War and the importance of this area for both the Union and the Confederacy.
