The Rose Barn Theater, formerly know as the Richmond area theater has been bringing theatrical performances to Madison county for 20 years. Our goal is to provide an outlet for people of any age, race, religion, or economic standing to utilize their talents to bring cultural diversity and entertainment to the community.

As the only fully volunteer non profit community theatre group in Madison County the Rose Barn theater is fully self sustaining, receiving no financial aid from the city or county governments. All people involved in the theater from directors and actors to set design and set building personnel to the very important lighting Sound and back stage technical staff are made up of community members who utilize there talents to present professional quality theater in a community setting.

We are proud of the volunteers who support out theater and encourage other to become involved. It takes a lot more than acting to produce a successful show, where would the actors be if there were no sets, lights or back stage crew making sure everything is in order? How enjoyable would a performance be without stage hands, Lighting and sound operators or musicians? The Rose Barn Theatre believes everyone has something to offer and encourages people to utilize their talents to give back to the community.

In the early days of our theater we performed in "borrowed spaces" as diverse as an empty furniture store, the National Guard Armory, the Hummel Planetarium, school auditoriums, and the Richmond Area Arts Center. In 2004 through the generosity of Madison County we found a home with the dedication of the old tobacco barn at the new Madison County Battlefield Park.

A theater in a barn creates some interesting challenges, (rain, snow, heat and cold) however it does give us a stationary location to utilize, and some of our patrons find it to be quite a charming diversion from the average theater experience. We are working constantly to create a more usable and suitable space in the barn, and hope to someday transform what some people view as a drafty old tobacco barn into a up to date climate controlled theater.
