Vision:
It's yours. It's mine. It's ours.
The thoughtfully designed Robert W. Monk Gardens will allow visitors to enjoy the grounds from the earliest stages of its creation. As the Gardens grow, so shall the possibilities of learning and enriching the body and mind at the Gardens. We are especially proud to be working on the Wildflower Woods in the first phase, a place where everyone can experience the beauty of the gardens and discover how gardening and an appreciation of nature is accessible to all.
History:
The garden will be built in several phases and take an estimated 15 years to complete. Enjoy the slideshow below to see what our big picture vision looks like for our community.
Robert W. Monk Gardens is a 21-acre property on the West Side of Wausau, Wisconsin, at 1800 N. First Ave., named for the late Robert W. Monk, the benefactor and prominent local businessman who donated the land for development of an outstanding public garden. Officially incorporated as a nonprofit institution in 2003, Robert W. Monk Gardens seeks to promote understanding of the aesthetic, economic, and ecological role of plants. A board of directors oversees the development and management of the Gardens.
Since the creation of the site, many improvements have been made to the property through generous donations of time, talent, and funds. Most recently, the Wildflower Woods and Memory Garden was completed, as was the spectacular Treehouse in the Pinery Woods.
