Over 64 years ago, a group of community minded individuals came together to share time, talent and treasure. They created a performing arts organization of a quality that many thought could only occur in the “big city.” Today as in the past, Richmond Civic Theatre is living up to its mission of “producing high quality theatrical productions that will engage, entertain, educate, and inspire the people of Richmond and the surrounding area, participants and audiences alike.”
We “engage” several hundred people each year in the “hands on” experience of producing live theatre. Pre-school children to senior citizens, novices to veterans, from two states and at least eight counties are given the opportunity to be actors, stage hands, set constructors, technicians, costumers, painters, make-up artists, etc. in the exciting process of making a live performance take shape on the stage. Many others assist the “front of house” as ushers, box office workers, board and business personnel.
We “entertain” by reaching out to a variety of audiences with our six Mainstage productions, our three Stage One Youth Theatre offerings, our two Studio Ten contemporary drama stagings, and our Classic Movie Series. A “mystery theatre” troop and Stage One’s traveling “Showstoppers” further extend our entertainment out into the community.
We “educate” through the many opportunities we provide for people to become directly involved in our productions. In addition, we offer at least one “classic drama” each year that schedules extra performances and interpretative study materials for middle and high school students in our eight county area. Post-performance discussion groups are also scheduled from time to time.
We seem to “inspire” audience members judging from their testimonials as to the quality and entertainment value of our productions, as well the volunteers who regularly express their appreciation for the opportunity to be a part of the RCT family. The two hundred new members that have joined our effort in past months give further evidence that we are fulfilling our stated purpose
Mission:
Produce high quality theatrical productions that will engage, entertain, educate, and inspire the people of Richmond and the surrounding area, participants and audiences alike.
