About Us:
Since its inception in 1957, the Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra, founded by Dr. Louis Pichierri, has been a significant presence in the Rhode Island arts community. RICCO has enjoyed continuous growth and community support for more than fifty years, presenting a season of at least three major choral concerts each year. Its repertoire includes major works of choral literature, and lesser known artistic gems. The Chorale takes particular pride in presenting new, commissioned works such as the 2010 world-premier of Rhode Island composer Michael DeQuattro’s With One Voice.
The members of the Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra enjoy the challenge of singing and making music, coming together to provide a fulfilling musical experience. RICCO also plays an important role in keeping Rhode Island’s classical music scene alive and well by employing professional soloists and orchestra members from the community. In addition, the Chorale is actively promoting the careers of young singers by inviting students from Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut to participate in RICCO’s annual Collegiate Vocal Competition. The winners of the competition have the opportunity to perform as soloists in concert with the Chorale. As a non-profit organization, RICCO is entirely funded through member dues, ticket sales, corporate and government grants, individual donations, and fund-raising events. Through the continued support of its community, RICCO will enhance the musical, educational, and cultural life in Rhode Island for many years to come.
