This is the reason that we place our foremost interest in growing super-high-quality fruit. After experimenting with a "varietal trial block" to see 'what' performed 'how', we planted our vineyard in 2000 with seven different varietals of vinifera - several clones of Pinot Noir along with Tempranillo, Dolcetto, Gamay Noir, Viognier, Marechal Foch and Müller-Thurgau. The entire vineyard was planted utilizing all of the knowledge that today's Viticulture industry has to offer - the vineyard is fairly densely planted, vertically shoot positioned and farmed sustainably.
The vineyard is south facing at about 325 ft. elevation. The soil is Nekia (a red clay Basalt soil) and has good drainage. The vineyard is located on a knoll in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains and gets the warm dry days and cool humid nights that Pinot Noir needs to develop fruit with great color and intensity of flavors.
We hand-harvest each varietal in small lots only when it has reached its full potential. We age Piluso wine in small French oak cooperage until the wine says it's ready to bottle - usually in 10-12 months.
