Park Theater

History:
The Park Theater opened December 23, 1911 for silent movies and vaudeville. It was built by Isaac Ginsberg and Mr. Bellen for $18,000. The theater had fixed seats and an inclined floor with an elevated stage.

The building was bought by the Post-Star newspaper and rennovated to house a print shop in 1935. The floor was levelled and the stage removed. Two store fronts were built and an end floor added to the front half (street side) of the building.

The building was bought by "Guy" Domiono and run as a print shop until 1980. In 1984, the building was scheduled for demolition and saved by Dr. Harold Kirkpatrick, who purchased the building for $65,000. Restoration by Dr. Kirkpatrick continued over a 20 year period with very little funding available.

The building reopens October 9th, 2005 as a performing arts center. There will be a celebration of its 94th year on December 23, 2005, on which day the "Park Theater March" will be played on the piano as it was played at the opening in 1911.
