The mission of the Palma Sola Botanical Park Foundation is to serve as a unique community resource dedicated to providing an interactive learning environment that fosters an appreciation of nature and landscaping, preserves our natural resources and promotes environmental education.
The Park began in 1990 when a group of interested citizens and community groups rallied support to save the 10-acre site in northwest Bradenton that has once been the Manatee County Nursery. The Foundation was incorporated in 1993 as a non-profit organization, created to preserve the former nursery as a valuable green space and Park.
The Park now boasts a wonderful exotic fruit tree and nut tree section. This area was planted and is maintained by the Manatee Rare Fruit Council. They installed a lovely shell walkway with benches and each tree bears an identification post. The Gulfcoast Plumeria Society has also established two groves of Plumeria trees from around the world. With the St. Stephens School Youth laying the new shell pathway in that area, daily the park grows and changes.
