Built in 1798, San Luis Rey is the Largest of the California Missions. Mission San Luis Rey, the King of the Missions and a jewel of San Diego County North. A National Historic Landmark founded in 1798, Mission San Luis Rey is the largest of the 21 California Missions and recently ranked first among the Seven Wonders of San Diego County North, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
