Mission
The mission of the Old Brick Playhouse is to provide safe, educational and enlightening environments, facilities and programming which offer educational experiences in the theatre arts to children, youth and the community at large.
About Us
The Old Brick Playhouse is a non profit arts organization nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Highlands in Elkins, WV. Now entering its twelfth season, The Old Brick Playhouse specializes in providing entertaining and educational programs for children and youth in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Old Brick facility houses the local community theatre and independently provides workshops, day camps, classes, and other arts opportunities throughout the year for children and youth in theirs and surrounding communities.
The Old Brick Playhouse touring company also enters its twelfth season of creating and touring original musical comedies to Elementary Schools in the Mid Atlantic region and overseas to a cumulative audience of over one million students. Touring to eight states and overseas, the Old Brick’s madcap style integrates singing, dancing, juggling, acrobatics, and magic tricks with topical messages and guidance for children. The Old Brick has been working under contract with Young Audiences of Virginia for five years touring their original comedy; A Garden Fable, The Groovy Moving Show, advocating social and cultural tolerance in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Old Brick touring productions have achieved honors at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and have been showcased in the National Theatre in Washington, DC.
In addition to their work on stage, the Old Brick Playhouse in collaboration with the WV Initiative to Improve – End of Life Care and The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation produced a video for children who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Advocated by numerous palliative care organizations, Max and Nellie’s Journey with Grief is designed to answer frequent questions children may have when someone close to them dies while offering suggestions as to how one can grow through grief. The video has received national recognition and has been a successful tool used in hospitals, churches, and schools to help children who are dealing with issues of bereavement.
In addition to their standard curriculum, the Old Brick Playhouse Road Company also offers extended residencies in both elementary and secondary schools teaching the basics fundamentals of theatre. The goal of The Old Brick Company is to give individuals the opportunity to spend some time laughing together while learning to treat each other better.
