About us:
Fifteen years ago (1991), Ed and Juliet Nix had a dream; to create a Performing Arts School in Hawaii. Which would become for local residents what the High School of Performing Arts in New York City - the inspiration for the movie and television series, "Fame"-has been for the aspiring actors, dancers, and musicians of that home of Broadway.
Ed has been a ballroom dance instructor for over twenty years. He was previously trained and certified by Fred Astaire Dance Studios as a choreographer, teacher, and dance director. He eventually co-supervised a successful Astaire School prior to buying his own independent school here in Hawaii. In addition to that, he has been featured as an accomplished actor in various television commercials and worked on various series: Raven, Marker, Hawaii Five O, and Fantasy Island expanding his horizons in Acting. Juliet's career, spanning seventeen years includes ballroom dancing, acting, modeling, as well as judging numerous pageants and competitions. She also has a strong background in business management. By combining their talents, experience, and love for the performing arts, their shared vision resulted in the creation of the Nix Performing Arts Center aka Nixpac.
In the beginning, fewer than forty students were enrolled in the wide variety of dance classes, which were offered even then: jazz, ballet, hip hop, ballroom, hula, Tahitian, and tap. As enrollment grew, the broader concept of encompassing more than dance took shape; leading to the addition of Acting, Modeling And Vocal Programs Today, students number in the hundreds.
Fundamental to the success of any educational undertaking is a dedicated and talented student body. At our studios, classes are available to students as young as three years old. Young children have a natural ability, an eagerness to move to lively music, and a great capacity for having fun. We also teach teens and adults. Each student may have different goals, some may want to be professional dancers, and others are here for physical fitness. All our students are enthusiastic and enjoy deep appreciation of all dance forms in which they are able to participate.
The natural relationship between dance and acting led to the equally addition of curriculum in acting.
Confidence, communication skills, and poise are necessities in all endeavors; Nixpac, while offering all aspects of training required for a modeling career, has found strong interest in acquisition of these skills among not only aspiring models, but among students of all ages and backgrounds - from youngsters to business executives.
Although our students are our mainstays, no school especially a multi-faceted one could survive without an equally dedicated and professional faculty. International, national, and local professionals and instructors staff all divisions. Additionally, guest faculty and special workshops are presented from time to time. In every case, all instructors are or have affiliations with leading resources in those areas.
We do not intend to relax our standards or rest on our laurels; the Performing Arts are enjoying substantial growth in Hawaii. Movie production for theaters and television, television series and commercials, stage opportunities and international pageant promotions all require our talented local residents to be well trained and ready. Nix Performing Arts Center(Nixpac) will continue to be prominent presence in the training and development of Hawaii's performers, as well as a source of enjoyment and fulfillment for those seeking to satisfy only their personal and/or professional goals.
