The Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS), chartered in 1957, is a non-profit, volunteer-based, educational organization dedicated to the preservation of past, present, and future railroading in Central Virginia. The Chapter owns a number of historic passenger coaches and engines for preservation and for use on excursion train rides.Â
We are a tax exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code interested in collecting railroad memorabilia, researching the history of local railroads, maintaining our railroad museum, preserving railroad artifacts, and educating the public about railroads and railroad safety.
If you are mesmerized by the sound of a distant train whistle or secretly enjoy being stopped by a train at a grade crossing, our organization is for you. Our membership comes from many backgrounds, occupations, and interests. Come by and share your interests of trains and railroading with others!
