History:

In 1968 farmland that was owned by the Kramer Family was purchased by a group of investors for the purpose of building a golf course. These investors hired a well-known golf course architect by the name of Larry Pachard to design the facility. In 1970 nine holes were open with the remaining nine opening the following year. Besides the regulation length course, they built a 20,000 square foot clubhouse that could host parties up to 500.

In 1974 Scott Krause who had previously lived in Minnesota, purchased the course. Scott was an avid golfer and brought with him a family of five children with ages 19 to 9. In the beginning it was a matter of attracting golfers and weddings to patronize a facility that was thought to be "way out in the boonies". As business grew so did the changes to the facility. There were 3000 trees added to the course, 41 sand traps, drain tile and innumerable cosmetic enhancements.

The family has always had a hands on approach, to building their business. Scott was the general manager, Dodie (his wife) took care of all party and golf outing bookings. Mark, (the eldest son) was operations manager and head golf pro; Steve (the second son) worked on the golf course and in the pro shop while other members of the family worked at different jobs while growing up. The customers were always able to deal with a family member and be assured that a family member would be present to insure that their party was taken care of.

Except for a short time period from 1976 to 1981 the course has been semi-private. This means that both members and non-members can enjoy this full service facility. Membership privileges include the ability to make tee times further in advance, lower greens fee rates, member golf events every week, unlimited range ball usage, club charging privileges, 20% discount for their guests, special pricing on merchandise, food and drink and even cart usage discounts. They have five different membership packages available from all-inclusive golf to junior memberships.

In 1999 Scott sold the facility to Mark, Steve and youngest son Chris. Since that time, the brothers spent the first 5 years upgrading the facility to compete with the high-end golf courses and banquet facilities while keeping their prices affordable. They have added paved cart paths to the course, redesigned the entrance to the course, built flower beds throughout the course and completely re-modeled the inside of the club house with oak wainscoting and wallpaper. They even replaced their deck and added a patio area overlooking the course. Besides all the cosmetic changes they have added staff and valet service to insure your every need has been taken care of. Muskego Lakes Country Club is one of the oldest businesses in Muskego, being in existence for 38 years. With their commitment to service and quality we expect them to be part of Muskego for many years to come.
