About Us
Museum in the Community began in 1983 as a collaboration between the Huntington Museum of Art and a group of high school students. Under the guidance of their art teacher and with funding from the West Virginia Arts and Humanities Council, students from the Putnam County Gifted Art Program took on an ambitious semester project: to learn how a museum works and how an exhibition is put together, and then to present a real art exhibition in their own community.

From this modest start in a storefront in an old strip mall the Museum has expanded its programs to become an arts education and cultural center for visitors of all ages and interests. The Museum has presented over 100 exhibitions and more than 75 performances. Visual arts, dance, music and drama are all represented at its annual summer arts camp.
