The Museum’s Mission:
The Morattico Waterfront Museum honors life on the river in this place and those who lived it before us by preserving for public knowledge the cultural history and traditions of a watermen's village on the Rappahannock River, and by maintaining a center for community activities in the museum building.
Our Goals:
-To preserve for public knowledge and education evidence of the cultural history of Morattico, from its Native American heritage to its evolution into an agricultural village and working watermen's center for fishing, crabbing, oystering, and turn-of-the-century steamboat commerce;
-To restore the last general store building in the area and maintain it as the home of the museum;
-To emulate the spirit of community and enterprise characteristic of earlier residents by establishing the museum as a center for community activities.
