Mission and History:

Montgomery Theater is a uniquely intimate, not-for-profit theatrical enterprise dedicated to bringing new life to old tales, and giving age and wisdom to new ones.  The three overlapping arches of our logo represent our intentions to serve the play by telling the story well, serve the artists by fulfilling their creative passions, and serve the audience by challenging and entertaining them.

Montgomery Theater demonstrates the power of live theater on an intimate scale. By remaining true to our mission and fostering the free expression of ideas, Montgomery Theater aims to be:

Acclaimed by a growing theater audience for delivering consistently high quality theatrical productions, broadening the perspectives of all who participate;

Acclaimed by regional artists and actors for the collaborative atmosphere among playwrights, actors, directors, educators, professional and volunteer staff;

Acclaimed as an incubator for tomorrow’s actors;

Acclaimed by individual and institutional benefactors for establishing a sustained presence in the Delaware Valley cultural marketplace.

The structure that houses Montgomery Theater was once the Souderton firehouse.  This turn-of-the-century building was purchased by the Souderton Borough in order to secure that Montgomery Theater could be in the center of town, thus spearheading the revitalization of the Souderton-Telford Communities.  On April 30, 1993 Montgomery Theater Project took occupancy of the lower level of the firehouse, transforming the old banquet hall and senior center into a 70-seat theater,  and opening Jonathan Daly’s “the William” on June 10, 1993. In 2002 the main floor of the structure, formerly the engine room, was renovated into a professional 122-seat theater called the Main Stage.   The top floor now provides the theater with rehearsal space, dressing room facilities, a green room, offices and storage space for props and costumes.

Every year Montgomery Theater stages five productions on its Main Stage and two children’s productions, educational programs for adults and children, and experimental theater on its lower level Project Stage, along with occasional limited-run, special productions.  In May of 2011 Montgomery Theater was thrilled celebrated its 100th production, the play “Hail Mary” by Tom Dudzick.
