Montauk State Park preserves a shady green retreat that offers visitors plenty of opportunities for fun, whether it is fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking or just relaxing with friends and family.
The park is located at the headwaters of the famed Current River. The park’s springs combine with tiny Pigeon Creek to supply more than 40 million gallons of water to the river each day. The cool spring water is perfect for rainbow trout and this makes the park popular with anglers.
Picnic areas and two picnic shelters provide the perfect place for a quiet lunch or a family reunion. Three trails provide hikers and bicyclists with an easy way to explore the park. Tours of the gristmill, built in 1896, give visitors a taste of the past and help them learn about the history of the Ozark region.
For visitors wanting to spend the night, the park offers a variety of choices, including a modern campground, rental cabins and motel rooms. The modern dining lodge will satisfy any appetite.
Fishing
Montauk State Park’s premier attraction is trout fishing, and the Current River contains both rainbow and brown trout. The pristine waters and natural surroundings of the Current River are an excellent background for trout fishing. Trout season opens March 1 and lasts until Oct. 31. In between, there is a catch-and-release program for year-round angling fun at the park. License and daily trout tags are required and can be purchased from the state park concessionaire. A fish cleaning station is available for anglers to clean their trout.
Camping
Montauk State Park's campground offers basic and electric campsites. For a little extra space, try one of the park's family campsites.
The park's store carries a variety of camping supplies.

Picnic Areas
Individual picnic sites provide the perfect place for a family dinner or a quick lunch. Picnic areas, which include tables, outdoor grills, restroom facilities, and playgrounds, are scattered throughout the park.
PICNIC SHELTERS
Two open picnic shelters are available and are perfect for large family gatherings or special outings. Both shelters have picnic tables, outdoor grills and a children’s playground, a water fountain and hydrant, and restroom facilities nearby.
PLAYGROUNDS
An accessible playground is located near the old CCC shelter. There is another playground in the campground.
