Mission Bay Park is the largest aquatic park of its kind in the country. It consists of over 4,235 acres in roughly equal parts land and water. Mission Bay boasts 27 miles of shoreline, 19 of which are sandy beaches with eight locations designated as official swimming areas.
Annual attendance in the park is estimated at 15 million.
At the west end is a network of channels and islands - a perfect spot for everyone from windsurfers to water- skiers. You can swim, enjoy the sun or rent a boat to explore the thousands of acres of waterways.
Mission Bay Park offers boat docks and launching facilities, sailboat and motor rentals, bike and walk paths, basketball courts and playgrounds for children. It is one of San Diego's most fun-filled spots to visit.
Many people prefer to stay on shore and spend their leisure picnicking, riding a bike along the paths, playing volleyball, or flying a kite. There are close to 14 miles of bike paths along Mission Bay.
Public restrooms and showers are available and lifeguard stations are located in designated areas.
Dog Walking
Some areas in Mission Bay Park allow dogs to be on leashes, other areas such as Fiesta Island are leash free, and other areas do not allow dogs. Please pay attention to posted signs.
Camping
There is a youth campground located on Mission Bay's Fiesta Island and throughout the year youth groups with their leaders enjoy a full camping experience there. A permit is required to use this site. It is unlawful for adults to camp, sleep overnight or lodge overnight in Mission Bay Park.
Fishing
Fishing is permitted in all areas of Mission Bay, except in areas designated for swimming, water skiing and personal water craft use (including take off and landing zones). Fishing is also not allowed from any bridge.
Ski Beach
Ski Beach is located on east side of Vacation Isle off of Ingraham Street. There is a large grassy area, a picnic shelter with picnic tables, fire rings and a path for jogging or bike riding. Up to two inflatables are allowed. There is a boat launch and ski area on the south side, but no swimming is allowed. There is also a children's playground adjacent to the picnic shelter.
