It started in 1994 featuring such renowned bands as Kid Rock, Marcy Playground, Duncan Sheik and Nineteen Wheels, plus local showstoppers like Powerface, Knee Deep Shag, The Lash, and The Weep.
In 2002 the festival moved from October to September, and the name changed to Old Town BluesFest. In its early years, the festival brought out 2,000-3000 people. That has grown to over 5,000 people from across Michigan and nearby states, coming to what is now named Michigan BluesFest. Of course they come for the music - outstanding talent, from local favorites to regional and national acts, including many appearing for the first time in Lansing. But they also enjoy the great food and craft vendors, expansive beverage tent, children’s activities and more, all surrounded by the best of the Capital City’s art galleries as well as unique retail stores and grand architecture.
